Project Overview

To address the unique needs of Florida’s Latinx community, an initiative to produce a culturally tailored, Spanish language version of the It’s Time to Talk About It Family Guide is underway. This project seeks to examine nuanced interactions between culture, mental health, and help-seeking behavior to accurately assess Latinx community needs and form a resource that can effectively guide parents and caregivers in supporting a child at risk of suicide.

Data collection for this project has spanned four Florida counties and nine focus groups. Data collection efforts will continue until the interaction between the Latinx culture and the suicide prevention needs of Florida's diverse Latinx community can be understood. Project efforts are led by a Latinx research team, including members of the University of South Florida’s Alliance & Suicide Prevention Lab and Hispanic Family Counseling.
