2005 Summer Program for Gifted and High Ability Students

This program gives no high school credit.

To Apply:

Download an application form and follow the instructions on page 2.

Applications are due by May 10, 2005. Applications received after that date will be considered on a space available basis.

Students are notified of acceptance by mid-May.

Program Description

The Program consists of two levels:

Level 1 is for students entering grades 8, 9 and 10;
Level 2 is for students entering grades 10, 11 and 12.

The Program offers instruction in the foundations and methodology of mathematics with topics selected from finite mathematics and number theory with emphasis on real-life applications. Computers are used to write programs and solve mathematics and science problems with emphasis on discovery. Topics from environmental science provide the scientific and laboratory experience. Peaceful resolution of conflict is also studied. Recreational activities form an integral part of the Program.

The Program takes place on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida. It starts on June 6 and ends July 8, 2005. Classes meet Monday - Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm.

The instructors are experienced award winning faculty and staff at the University of South Florida.

This Program is open to high ability students who meet the State of Florida criteria for the gifted, and for those who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement.

The cost for the Program is $500 due upon acceptance into the Program. There is also a $50 non-refundable application fee.
