Diving Board Deflection

by Matthew Trapuzzano

Submitted : Spring 2012

This project presents procedures to verify certain experimental data of a Duraflex diving board. The loading conditions are taken from testing of the diving board by the manufacturing company, so that certain information about the behavior and attributes may be known because a test board is not readily available. Using mathematics, and physics equations, the internal shear and bending moment diagrams of the diving board will be drawn for the given loading. Then, the curvature and moment relationship will be used to determine the deflection of the board given the same circumstances. The maximum deflection of the board will be determined experimentally and then compared to the experimental data to assure safety of the equipment.
