Filling Sinkholes with Integration

by Paul Devlin

Submitted : Spring 2018

Sinkholes are a common occurrence in Florida, and often lead to hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage to the property that sits above them. The first step to repairing property after a sinkhole forms is to fill it in so the damaged structures above it can be repaired or rebuilt. This report shows how using the size and depth of a hole can be used to find the equation of the hole (in this case a parabola). Thn integration and the ring method is used to find the volume of cement required to fill it.
