Applications of Fractals in Computer Graphics

by Jorge Villarreal

Submitted : Fall 2015

Fractals are mathematical patterns generated by nature that replicate at every scale, meaning that every section of the fractal will have the same shape and/or pattern. Objects like these are very useful when it comes to artificial life, in other words, computer generated images (leaves, shells, corals, etc.). This project will take into account the Von Koch curve in order to analyze the behavior of the fractal and generate this pattern using computer software. Fractals are really important, because they help the programmer generate an artificial life that is useful for biology research and animation (which include visual effects).
