Engineering >> Chemical & Biomedical EngineeringBlood Glucose Levelsby Pedro Zamora-Albor
Submitted : Fall 2012 The principles of integration and separation of variables are important concepts in many fields of studies, primarily in engineering. The purpose of this project is to develop a mathematical function that can be used to calculate the glucose levels in the blood over a period of time. The production of glucose from carbohydrates is a first order kinetic reaction that can be represented by simple differential equations. These differential equations can then be easily manipulated by using the concept of integration and the technique of separation of variables to form a new equation to represent the concentration of glucose in terms of time. Moreover, the formation of this new equation can be used to find both the concentration and time at which the level of glucose is at its highest and or lowest. The concentration of glucose obtained from the mathematical function derived from this project can then be used to determine if an individual is diabetic or not.
