Engineering >> Electrical EngineeringEuler Integration with High and Low Pass Filtersby Matthew Oldfield
Submitted : Spring 2012 If a voltage source contains varying frequencies, it is sometimes necessary to filter out certain frequencies to achieve a desired result. This is done in a RC circuit with high pass filters, that allow higher frequencies through, and low pass filters, that allow lower frequencies through. To simulate this effect, a first order Euler integration was used on a differential equation to approximate the total voltage, as well as the resistor voltage and the capacitor voltage over a 2 second time interval. The result of running this simulation at varying capacitance levels shows that the capacitance is inversely proportional to the frequency cutoff level of the filter, allowing for precise manipulation of high and low pass filtering.
