Engineering >> Chemical & Biomedical EngineeringThe Recovery of the Anesthetic Isofluranby Trimicia Archibald
Submitted : Fall 2008 There is a possibility of recovering some amount of isoflurane that a patient breathes out while under anesthetic. The gas stream leaving the patient's lung is assured to contain at least a mole fraction of 0.005 of isoflurane. Using this information, coupled with the temperature and pressure, we determined two things:
The Antoine equation is used to calculate the temperature for the condenser to recover 80% of isoflurane and the Clausius-Clapeyron equation is used to calculate the vaporization. Keywords: Isoflurane, Anesthetic, Exhaled breath
