This project is an application of optimization. The engineer is given the costs for the individual products, the cost to ship the product, and the cost to store each one. The engineer must then find the cheapest way to have these products delivered and stored. The best way to do this is by using the process known as optimization. Industrial engineers are put in charge of the logistics of many companies and this is one of the processes they use to maximize the profits for the company they are working for.
