Pressure-Time Curve in a Compression-Ignition (CI) Engine

by Xavier Gonzalez

Submitted : Spring 2010

This project is intended to analyze and find the behavior of pressure within the cylinder of a combustion-ignition (CI) engine. With the measurements of a sensor inside the engine that provides the rate of change of pressure at different angles of the crankshaft, a graph of Pressure versus theta, the maximum pressure, rate of change, and acceleration of pressure can be determined. All mentioned values are found by the application of calculus, with integration to find the pressure and deriving to find the acceleration by inserting them into an Excel spreadsheet to compute the values and generate the graphs.
