Beach Sediment Analysis 2012-2018

Submitted : Fall 2020

Initially, the data needed in order to continue with the project is, the northing, easting, and sediment elevation. These were recorded over a six-year time period from 2012-2018. The northing and easting coordinates were converted to distance (m) to represent how the elevation has changed regarding the offshore distance. After calculating the distance for each year, the data was placed into an excel graph. Calculating the erosion of dry sand is the most important in regard to nourishing beaches. Therefore, the graph only represents elevation of dry sand. Since the graph should represent how the elevation has changed in relation to the distance, the distance was placed on the x-axis and the elevation on the y-axis. This was done for each year and represented on one graph. After performing the calculations and producing the graph, over the six-year period, the sediment had eroded within the majority of the beach.
