Comparison of Pharmacokinetics in Sheep and Goats

Pharmacokinetics studies the movement of drugs within the body, specifically how the organism affects the drugs. Using basic calculus, it is possible to understand the relationship between organisms and medicine. This paper focuses on two different pharmacokinetic studies in which the effectiveness of subcutaneous injections of meloxicam in comparison to IV injections was studied. This paper compared the max concentration, time of max concentration, mean residence time, bioavailability, and area under the curve calculations between two separately conducted studies (one studying goat reactions and the other studying sheep) to determine if there was a difference in the way different species bodies respond to the same drug. It was predicted that although the species are similar, they would produce drastically different results. It was concluded that although meloxicam is eliminated at a faster rate in goats than in sheep, goats produced a higher bioavailability.
