Volume of Liquid for Reducing Waste

Self-service soft drink machines in restaurants can be the source of a lot of waste. By automating these machines, waste can be better controlled and theoretically eliminated. This can be done by finding the volume of each cup at the restaurant. Then, after inserting the cup into the machine, the original weight is taken. After adding ice, the machine can correct for the amount of liquid that can fit into the cup while also accounting for a 10% decrease in height, so the liquid does not reach the exact top of the cup. Then after all these calculations are made the user removes the drink and attaches a lid to the top. This will remove a lot of human error associated with overpouring drinks.
