Concerning Beams in Static Mechanics

by Talal Moosa

Submitted : Fall 2019

This project addresses the use of calculus in determining deflection behavior of simple beams in static mechanics. Different structures in mechanical engineering such as levers, axels and brackets etc. are treated as beams.

The analysis leads to necessary equations required to solve common problems in statics.

A beam is an element of structure that comes in different shapes and requires characterization in terms of equilibrium conditions and material. Understanding how to calculate their characterizing features is a key factor in mechanics.

Different conditions have been approached in this review. They comprise boundary condition, loading pattern and initial geometry of the beam.

There are more complicated structures to analyze however, this paper focuses on simple beams since they represent a foundation for the more advanced problems in statics.
