This paper fuses together aspects of calculus and physics in determining the appropriate measurements and parts necessary for a well-designed system. The system in this project is a roof drainage system that flows water into an overflow pool in which a precisely calculated valve-and-sensor system maintain a level of water in the pool via a valve and pipe in order to effectively and safely flow the water.
In order to accomplish this, volume of a function via method of disks is utilized to determine how much water can be stored in the pool/tank. Also, Bernoulli’s flow rate equation, a derivation or Euler’s equation, is used to determine the proper sizing of a pipe to maintain the flow of the water through the pipe without breaking legal/billing codes.
