Medicine >> HospitalPharmacokinetics and Calculus Within Anesthesiologyby Lara Lahey
Submitted : Spring 2018 Surgery, specifically anesthesiology, is one of the many professions that utilizes pharmacology. Anesthesiologists and surgeons alike must employ pharmacokinetic models and calculus based equations when deciding how to administer and dose a drug. Prior to taking surgical actions, the surgeon will have to decide if the procedure is actually the best option. Once the surgery is approved, the anesthesiologists, wether it be pre or post surgery, will provide a patient with multiple drug dosages. To do this, the pharmacology of a drug must be well known. The purpose of this project is to explore how calculus it is applied to medicine. This paper will provide basic knowledge on the topic of pharmacology, while showing examples of calculus based models for drug/body interactions. The project will also cover a model for tumor growth, and solve to find the number of cells within a tumor. The models will be shown with initial conditions, and solved to completion for example purposes.
