This paper details the probability of the occurrence of death by each of the ten major causes in the U.S. using data from a 2015 report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Heart disease overtook cancer as the leading cause of death in 2015 representing 23.4% of all mortality while cancer attributes for 22.5%. The next six most common diseases or conditions leading to death collectively carry a one in 5 chance of occurrence whereas suicide and unintentional injuries such as car accidents as cause of death accounts for 6.8%. Altogether, the ten major causes of death represent roughly 74% of all mortality across the country. Death as a result of gun violence represents 0.48% of all deaths in 2015. Related Links:
