Drawdown of a Well

by Kyle Jensen

Submitted : Fall 2015

The project was conducted in order to find out how much the water level drops when a well pumps water out of the aquifer. This is known as drawdown, and it is used to determine whether or not a particular well is suited for its location. Starting with the Theis equation, it can be derived to find a new equation that uses some algebra and a definite integral. The integral involves a summation which leads to finding the unknown variables. From there, a geologist can make a decent approximation for the drawdown value that can be found without the use of computer programs or precise measurements.
