Sea Level Rise Acceleration

by Gregory Wood

Submitted : Fall 2014

To determine the rising sea level in the future I created a computer program that takes the average value of two functions to calculate the number of inches the sea level will rise. The program is user friendly and asks the user which year they wish to find information about. I also calculated the average sea level using the average formula for calculus. Although we can’t predict the future precisely we can take averages and compute these functions to find the averages between these to find the sea level. I found that essentially the water level will rise all the way up to 2.5 - 6.5 feet. I concluded that the sea level is increasingly rising and will essentially double by the year 2100 and eventually double again by the year 2200 which would put American cities and populations at risk.
