Affect of Water on Lava Flow

Volcanoes can be formed by many processes, however when they erupt they can send molten rock or lava across the ground. Sometime this lava travels far and sometimes it doesn’t. It depends on the composition of the rock as well as the outside temperature. Sometimes the lava flows into bodies of water; this can cause the lava to cool off even quicker due to the coolness of the water. But does the water actually make a difference? The loss of heat over a pool of water is important to know.
