Analysis of an Adiabatic Plug Flow Reactor

by Justin Eisenmann

Submitted : Spring 2013

In this project we analyze an adiabatic plug flow reactor. Our goal is to find out the temperature and partial pressure of naphthalene as in moves thought a reactor. We cannot solve this problem analytically. Since the problem cannot be solved analytically we will solve it numerically using Euler’s method. We use Euler’s method to solve for the change in temperature and pressure as it moves thought the reactor. We are able to use this information to graph temperature a function of distance and pressure as a function of distance. Once we do this we are able to change our simulation in order to see what inlet pressure will prevent the naphthalene from exceeding 1000k.
