Time to Drain a Tank Through a Pipe

by George Weisnicht

Submitted : Fall 2011

Since the demand for oil is increasing everyday there needs to be a proper supply available for consumers. One example of equipment used in the distribution of oil is an oil tank. The tank style worked with is a large containment tank with a long pipe at the bottom. The objective of this project was to find the time between refills for the tank. Solving this problem required knowing the equations for the flow rate and height of the oil, as well as basic algebraic and integration skills.
