Engineering >> Chemical & Biomedical EngineeringDiffusion of Oxygen into a Hydrogelby Arianna Lupo
Submitted : Fall 2012 Given a set of equations describing the concentration of oxygen at several parts of a hydrogel that grows cartilage cells, the equations were integrated to reach the goal of this project; which was to find the maximum allowable thickness of the gel. The general solution depends on the flow rate of oxygen per unit area at several parts of the hydrogel, the reaction rate constant for oxygen in the gel and the diffusion coefficient of oxygen. A plot of the oxygen concentration as a function of the position in the gel was provided to then find the relationship between the equations and reach the final solution.
