Transportation of Machinery through a Confined Space

Submitted : Spring 2009

Given a packaging machine with arbitrary dimensions, a determination can be made before moving whether the machine will fit through a hallway and into a certain room. Knowing specific measurements of the width of the hallway and the room, equations modeling the situation can be formulated and the minimum width calculated. Using a trial and error, an appropriate approach angle of the machine may be selected to work with the overall model. Using this width and approach angle, a decision can be made whether the machine will successfully fit into the room.
