Engineering >> Civil & Environmental EngineeringExhaust Emission Concentrations as a Function of Distance from the Roadby Sean Myers
Submitted : Spring 2012 Compounds emitted from automobile exhaust pipes are observed as they react with normal atmospheric conditions over time and distance. The objective is to designate a safe proximity from the roadway to allow inhabitable structures. Determining the equilibrium ratio of harmful compounds released will assist in calculating the distance that can be considered safe. Values can be computed from the initial concentration and starting point up until equilibrium, which will show the ratio change over distance. A graph of the concentration levels in terms of distance from the roadway will clarify the data obtained.
