Engineering >> Civil & Environmental EngineeringSkidding Distance on Wet and Dry Roadsby Christopher Apple
Submitted : Spring 2012 In my project I solved for change in position to model the skidding distance of car in terms of time and the angle of a ramp. From there I discussed this model in terms of only the angle to reflect how far the car would skid when it came to a stop on wet and dry roads. I have concluded from this that the car will skid infinitely at the angles -21.8 degrees and -35 degrees on wet and dry roads respectively. I have also concluded that the car will skid further until it skids infinitely but, will then no longer hold to the model as the car would just keep skidding infinitely at even steeper angles. This is demonstrated by the fact that when the skidding distance is approaches infinity it does so until the angle of the ramp is physically unrealistic like an angle that is more clockwise than straight down.
