The Effect of Air Resistance on a Golf Ball

by Melissa Pocius

Submitted : Spring 2012

To solve this project, I derived the equation of motion for particles in the x and y direction. From there I solved for ax and ay, then I solved the differential equation by using the integration factor: e integral k/m dt and then I was able to integrate and get my equation. From there I was able to plug the numbers I had been given along with the time and drag coefficient in for each location and solve the equation. From my results I found that the golf will in fact go further if it is hit in Copper Mountain, CO as opposed to Tampa, FL.
