Natural Sciences >> GeologySpeleothem Laminae Counting and Growth Ratesby Corey WIlson
Submitted : Fall 2011 The research that was performed was designed to determine if there is a correlation between annual laminae in spelethems when compared with Uranium dating. The counting method used involved using blown up high-resolution pictures, a magnifying glass, and a marker to count the laminae. This data was then placed in a data set and a line of best fit was determined. This data could be used with Uranium isotope dates, to determine an approximate growth rate over time if more data were attained. However, at this time there is not enough information to make an adequate analysis of the age and growth rate, outside of an approximation.
