Submitted : Spring 2011 In this Robotic Ship project, vector methods and other calculus techniques were used to calculate and position paths of robotic ships to find enemy ships. Tyler McClure determined the paths of a catcher ship which destination is to meet up with the path of a runner ship. As well as avoiding certain obstacles set in the robotic ship’s area of transverse. To do this, he found the potential field for each ship after each step, thus calculating a path to catch the runner while avoiding the obstacles. The obstacle calculations were given a negative sign to direct the vector away from the point where as the runner was a positive since that’s where the goal was set. Tyler then used distance calculations as well as trigonometry to determine angles of paths and changes in the x,y-coordinates. The conclusions he derived from these equations plotted a graph to show the route of which the catcher and runner would have to be at any certain step for the catcher to finally reach the runner.
