Sizing of an Ammonia Discharge Tank

In response to a problem of the concentration of ammonia, which is discharged in a wastewater stream by a phosphate company, occasionally spiking over a cap set by the EPA, it is suggested that a well-stirred tank is used to regulate the concentration of the ammonia discharged.

This report discusses the methods used to determine the minimum possible volume of the tank required to solve this problem. It also discusses how, with this information, it can be determined if the use of a tank is an efficient and cost effective way to solve this problem with the possible implication that many other companies may use this method to decrease the negative effects of ammonia on the environment.
