Open Channel Flow

Submitted : Spring 2010

Culverts, sewers, and canals are examples of open channel flow, in which water is flowing through a channel with its surface exposed to the atmosphere. These channels have to be sized so that they can transport the required amount of water. Empirically, it is found that the velocity of a fluid in an open channel with uniform flow can be represented by the Chezy-Manning equation. Using Chezy-Manning equation and the volumetric flow rate equation, find the value of the width given the values of all other variables using Newton's Method.
