Natural Sciences >> Biological OceanographyAnalysis of Fish Populations in Relation to Depthby Jackson Harris
Submitted : Spring 2022
This paper uses survey data to present how the depth of the ocean affects the populations of Surgeonfish and Snappers. Upon attending the Keys Marine Lab many different surveys were conducted of the surrounding reefs through scientific research diving. The surveys conducted covered 7 different depths between 4 separate sites(reefs). The data being covered is from fish surveys and more specifically focused on Snappers and Surgeonfish populations. The data showed trends on Surgeonfish populations to increase with depth and Snappers decreased with depth. This data was then used to calculate a growth formula to show how distributions of these fish populations will change with depth. The surveys completed ranged from depths of 14 feet to 36 feet giving 7 different intervals to show how the fish populations changed.
