Applications of Calculus in Computer Engineering

Every hour of every day, billions of weather observations are recorded by weather satellites, weather balloons, ocean buoys, and surface weather stations around the world. Supercomputers are the storage units for this ever-changing weather data where meteorologists use forecast models to build new forecasts. The output model gives them an idea about the different changes in the atmosphere, specific details of what is going on in each layer and also help them decipher what will happen in the next coming days.

In fact, weather forecasts are possible because of supercomputers. Given the rate at which digital technology is expediating throughout the world, calculus becomes more and more essential, being a major part of computer software, programming and even weather forecasting. My objective in this project is to highlight the unique ways by which computer engineering is so closely tied to engineering calculus. One such application that is not that widely known is that of calculus-based weather forecasting.
