Mathematical Modeling of Biodigesters

Biogas is a renewable energy alternative to natural gas. Biogas is produced in biodigesters through the anaerobic digestion of organic waste matter including: human and animal excrement, food waste, yard clippings, and more. The biogas is available for extraction from the biodigester and may be used similarly to natural gas. Biogas production has various benefits. Such as, minimizing carbon, specifically methane, emissions. Significant labor is required to maintain a functioning biodigester. Modeling of bacterial population size present in a biodigester using the logarithmic growth function provides insight on the limitations placed on biogas production.
