Natural Sciences >> ChemistryEffects of Acid Rain on Plant Growthby Bianca Williams
Submitted : Spring 2016 The goal of this project is to illustrate the harmful effects of acid rain on our environment by observing the environment affected by it. For a specific species of plants growing under two controlled conditions with the same rate of absorption, the rate of plant growth was measured. Three potted Pothos vine plants were observed over eight weeks and each pot had a different salinity level. Plant A represented the potted plant with a pH of 7 and Plant B represented the potted plant with a pH of 5. The third potted plant with a pH of 4 was not considered for the calculations of this project. Once deriving the equations for the height of each plant, it was observed that the rate of plant growth was different, Therefore, the main objective was to determine at what height does the rate of growth for Plant A double the rate of growth for Plant B.
