Engineering >> Civil & Environmental EngineeringLength of Electric Pipe in HDDby Alberto Perez
Submitted : Spring 2015
Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is an economical and environmental friendly method for the installation of all kinds of pipes under rivers, roads, railway tracks, buildings and other obstacles. One can install sewer, fresh water, gas, oil, and communication pipelines without the need for trenching. Pipe length is estimated using distance formula and arc length formula. Prior to drilling a pre planned path is created. Using localizers, we find other kinds of pipes already underground and take note of their location. We take note of those other pipes so that the installation of the new electric pipeline does not interfere with other pipes. Once we take note of all obstacles, I designate points to then calculate a quadratic and cubic equations. This specific quadratic equation will output a parabola under the x-axis and that parabola will be the pre-determined path for horizontal directional drilling.
