Evapotranspiration Rates of Crews Lake

by Lukas Medo

Submitted : Spring 2015

The objective of this project was to utilize historical weather data to give us a better understanding of the hydrologic cycle using rates of evaporation. The mathematical models used should support why lakes have been severely drying up in the Hernando County area. The potential evaporation rates of Crews Lake from January and June of 1960 and 2010 were compared using the Penman model. The crop reference evapotranspiration was also calculated using data from 2005 when the lake was mostly dry. Both models indicate that there is a stronger relationship between humidity/radiation with the evapotranspiration rate than temperature or wind.
