Natural Sciences >> OtherOptimization of Pine Tree Farmingby Samuel Dornbusch
Submitted : Spring 2014 In this project data from other previous studies were used to establish a trend for the growth of trees at various spacing. With these measurements of DBH (diameter at breast height) and height the volumes were approximated for each individual tree. This information was then used to create a trend for the volume in relation to the number of trees per acre at different stages in life. The results show that the spacing of trees at younger ages does not inhibit growth significantly enough to justify the spacing, however at ages of 17 years and above the trend shows that the total volume per acre is greater with fewer trees per acre.
