Engineering >> Chemical & Biomedical EngineeringFlow Rate of a Cylindrical Tankby Elizabeth Kenworthy
Submitted : Spring 2014 We wish to design a cylindrical tank with the following characteristics: Flow rate Q_0 = 0.0004 m^3/s when the tank is half full Tank radius = 2 m We desire the flow rate to be at least 80% of the half-height value for a period of 4 hours. Find the orifice areas A_0(m^2) and tank length that satisfy these constraints. The flow rate out of the tank is given by a modification of Torricelli’s equation: Q_0=ć-Ać_0 C_d √rgh Where A_0 is the orifice area, h is the liquid level height, C_d is the discharge coefficient (Cd=0.6) and g is the gravitational constant (g = 9.8 m/s^2)
