Natural Sciences >> Integrative BiologyInvestigation of the Particle Flux of Seed Disperialby Aidan Petrovich
Submitted : Spring 2013 The purpose of this project is an analysis and comparison of two different areas and each of their characteristic flux of particles into their respective areas. These two fluxes are defined in how particles flow into a particular test area. In the first case, the particles flow in one direction and in one dimension from a particle source into a rectangular test area. In the second case, there is a two dimensional radial directed particle flux that flows from all sides into a circular test area. The flux will be modeled from first principle by considering the concentration per unit area at different times and the net flux and then constructing a mathematical expression from this. Then a steady-state analysis with respect to time will be carried out to compare which of these areas fill more quickly and their total concentration of particles flowing through each area. This analysis confirmed the result that the two dimensional flux was a better means for filling its area. Is this way, an abstraction can be made as to treat seeds as theses particles and create an analogy between two different techniques for timber harvest and the two cases of area and flux.
