Engineering >> Civil & Environmental EngineeringConcrete Needed for the Sides of an Exit Rampby Scott Scarpinato
Submitted : Spring 2013 Civil Engineers today use complex calculations to determine proper road design, and materials needed, all within a desirable cost estimate. For example, if too much concrete is ordered, then money is wasted. On the other hand, if too little concrete is ordered, then the project may have to be delayed resulting in a waste of time and cost overruns. This project involves calculating the amount of material required for an exit ramp with a maximum grade of 6%. Calculus is required for this calculation because the area to be determined may be found by taking the integral of the equation of the curve that matches the bridge.
