Filtering Particles

During construction projects, abnormally large amounts of dust and debris get into the air. When the construction project is taking place at a hospital, it is vital that minimum amount of debris particles get into the building. This requires air filtration. However, air filtration also slows down the airflow from the outside. In order to keep a proper amount of airflow while still filtering out an adequate amount of particles, you must use a certain type of filter. The field of industrial hygiene is concerned with solving problems like this one. With the aid of a few professors from the University of South florida and an industrial hygienist, I was able to use algebraic equations and calculus to find what features a filter must have to filter out an adequate of debris particles, while still maintaining proper airflow.
