The Relationship between Enzymes and Substrate Concentration

by Nina Wilczynski

Submitted : Spring 2012

The purpose of this project is to show how an enzyme’s chemical structure in relation to enzyme-substrate specificity is important for enzyme efficiency. The Michaelis-Menten equation shows the relationship between the rate of a chemical reaction and the concentration of substrate. The specific enzyme used is trypsin and the rate of the reaction during hydrolysis of the substrate BAPNA is calculated using the Michaelis-Menten equation. This rate of the reaction is then graphed against the different amounts of substrate used.
