Natural Sciences >> GeologyVolume of a Snail Shellby Allyson Imperio
Submitted : Spring 2012 The goal of this project was to calculate the volume of a snail shell and then compare to the actual volume. The actual value was obtained by filling the shell with a proxy and the breaking the shell. The proxy was then placed into a graduated cylinder filled with water and the displacement was measured. It was found that the calculated volume was 17% larger than the actual volume. If you could incorporate the coiling in the shell you could produce more accurate calculations.
