Medicine >> OtherCorrelation Between Early Onset of Alzheimer's Disease and Ɛ4 Allele of Apolipoprotein Eby Rajesh Melaram
Submitted : Spring 2012 Alzheimer’s disease is a disease in which millions of people suffer from every day (Roses). The progression of Alzheimer’s disease is caused by a few mechanisms and they include: mutations in genes produced apolipoprotein E, reduced levels of neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and the disruption of inflow and outflow in calcium into and out of neurons. A study of 104 patients was used in order to find a correlation between the numbers of apolipoprotein alleles present in the late-onset patients and MRI changes in Alzheimer’s disease. The Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was computed (0.18) to find no significant correlation between the two variables.
