Engineering >> EngineeringEmbedded Systems: Airplane Stopping Distanceby Ryan Noelk
Submitted : Spring 2010 For this project one must establish the distance needed for certain types of aircraft to come to a complete stop when landing. To solve this problem, one should take the derivative of a function several times and compared the derivative to the original function in order to determine the coefficients of the function. This allows the engineer to find the force with respect to time and the force with respect to distance. The engineer can use basic physics and kinematics to determine the exact distance it takes for a Boeing 777 to come to a complete stop with a given initial velocity. The engineer will find that the runway for a Boeing 777 should be at least 3145.81 meters long, given the conditions in the problem.
