Computer Games : Grenade Trajectory

by Youri Karpeev

Submitted : Spring 2010

In this project I used calculus in conjunction with kinematic motion equations to model parabolic ballistic projection. The vast majority of the project involved manipulating a given equation to solve for unknowns such as the components of a velocity vector, total time in flight, maximum height, range and x, y position at a certain point in time. I also used calculus to map the trajectory and determine whether or not it passed certain points on a 2D plane. From my results I drew the conclusion that calculus and physics can be used to model and simulate the real world. My project dealt with modeling real world physics in video games, but the equations I derived could be applied to any other simulation.
