Sizing a Dragster Parachute

by Kevin D'Angelo

Submitted : Spring 2010

The project I was given is sizing a dragster parachute. The object is to find out the coefficient of drag needed in order for the dragster to stop within the distance allowed. By knowing the drag coefficient, a parachute can be designed and sized accordingly. For the project, it will be shown how to integrate to figure out how much time it will take for the dragster to stop. After I had worked out the math and figured out the time it took to stop the dragster I was surprised and I believe you will too.
