In my opinion, the whole concept of Physical Chemistry and Chemical Kinetics is incomplete without the applications of Calculus. Since the day I was introduced to chemistry and aspired to be a Chemical Engineer, I as aware of the fact that Calculus and Chemistry go hand in hand where it comes to carry out Chemistry practically. The topic of my Project is the Application of fields like Integration and Differentiation in carrying out work with thermodynamics and kinetics. These too fields fall under the Physical Chemistry and Chemical Kinetics branches of Chemistry. My experiment I regarding proving the that the idea of entropy under the simple thermodynamics is a measure of disorder in the system which is proved at varying conditions by playing Integration with Differentiation. Another experiment/example that I will be talking about will be about the derivation of half lives from the rate laws through Integration. I noted, that these are the most crucial topics that I learned this year. After a conversation with my advisor, I feel it will be fun the application of Calculus in these areas. This will gather more of my interest towards these topics which is again beneficial for me as Chemical Engineering Major and also give me an opportunity to prove my point to the people around me with the suggestions of Subject Area Advisor.
