Engineering >> Mechanical EngineeringOptimizing Sound Attenuation in Commercial Businesses Using Methods Implemented in Recording Studioby Alexander Attir
Submitted : Spring 2018
To begin understanding the sound attenuation of commercial HVAC units and how they could be improved, one first must be able to accurately describe the interference they create. This was done by building steadily more accurate mathematical descriptions of the sound they produce by taking into account amplitude, plane waves, frequency, and their fluid medium. This created a generalized formula for an attenuation constant which was shown could be applied and specified to individual cases through frequency analysis. Once this was done possible solutions which are rooted in methods used in recording studios are proposed to help maximize this attenuation. Finally, a way to test proposed solutions was offered in order to give more relevance to realistic applications. Related Links:
